This summer, DCA members are invited to come together around The Emperor of Gladness, a powerful new book by acclaimed author and poet Ocean Vuong. With his trademark tenderness and precision, Vuong offers a moving collection that explores themes of memory, love, loss, and the quiet beauty of connection.

At its heart, this is a book about community—how we show up for each other in unexpected ways, and how small, everyday moments can carry deep meaning. It reflects what the DCA is all about: spontaneous conversations and meaningful exchanges that remind us we’re not alone. Sometimes we don't even realize the value we bring to others—but in coming together, we find out.

Our community discussion will be led by DCA Board Member Lis Drew, offering a welcoming space to reflect, share, and connect. Join us in reading this remarkable work and celebrating the moments that make our community matter.
